Frequently Asked Questions

My family needs help. Where do we start?

If your family is at-risk of losing your housing or you are houseless and have a child under 18 years old you need to contact Community Connect at (503) 640-3263 and get on the waitlist. When a room at GNC becomes available we will contact you to work on getting your family into the shelter.

Also, https://www.211info.org/ is a great resource. 211info empowers Oregon and Southwest Washington communities by helping people identify, navigate, and connect with the local resources they need.

How long can we stay?

Families are eligible to stay at the Good Neighbor Center family shelter for 6 weeks while they work with a case manager and other staff to gain employment and stable housing.

Do you accept same-sex couples, trans folks, or multi-generational families?

Yes! As long as you are a parent/caregiver with a child under 18 years old we welcome your family to the program and look forward to serving you.

Can we bring our service/support/companion animals?

Yes! We understand that service animals are a part of the family and we want to keep your family together. We will need a letter from a service provider (preferably doctor or mental health professional) stating that you would benefit from the service/support/companionship of said animal.

If I stayed with Good Neighbor Center in the last year can I still receive food and hygiene boxes?

Yes! For 12 months after your exit from the Good Neighbor Center your family may contact us once a month to request food and hygiene boxes.
